Attorney Says Brian Laundrie's Parents 'extremely Distraught' After Remains Id'd

Outraged and terrified moms called for action on the death of brian laundries.

His remains were positively identified and tonight, a revelation on the last time his parents saw their son.   The same questions have not yet been answered. Here is Kristin Thorne.

Reporter: around 5:30 Thursday evening police arrived to inform the parents of brian laundry that their sons remain had been identified.

They are upset and they are distraught but I don't think that accurately describes it.   The attorney and a longtime family friend of theirs on the long island say brian's dad discovered a bag belonging to brian on a trail he used to hike.

The FBI says that the area of the reserve near their home had previously been underwater.   They did find it. There was some sense of relief like, okay here it is. Here it is. We told you this.

Reporter: sources say that the remains are skeletal remains. They say it was discovered with a backpack and notebook belonging to brian. They said Thursday that a comparison of dental records confirmed the remains belonged to brian.

Reporter: you believe brian killed himself?

I do not have a belief one way or another. We are going to wait until we have more information from the medical examiner's office which we are told we may have some information tomorrow afternoon.

Reporter: gabby Petito's family did not want to speak to the media. Their attorney said in a statement, gabby's family is not doing interviews was making a statement at this time. They're grieving the loss of their beautiful daughter. Brian's parents had feared that when he left their home September 13, 12 days after arriving home without his fiance, that he may hurt himself.

They knew that to their son, brian, was reaping. They knew that he was so upset and they could not control that he was leaving and he left and walked o

    Today 2  before

Have been forever lost in the waters of this swamp. We're joined by the laundry family attorney. Steve Bertoli in, o. How is the family this morning?

Good morning, George. I have yet to speak to Chris and Roberta. Thanks for having me. Do they know how brian died? We do not. I was informed by law enforcement yesterday that perhaps mid-day today we may have some more information.

So, have you gotten any other information from the notebook or the backpack anything like that? None at all. Some video circulating shows the white bag that was picked up by Chris laundry almost immediately turned over to law enforcement, law enforcement found the backpack, I don't know if the notebook was in the white bag that Chris picked up. So many unanswered questions here, you told that they knew brian was grieving.

Gabby's remains weren't found until the 19th. Brian was extremely upset, Chris and Roberta were very concerned about him, they expressed that to me when he walked out the door that evening they wished they could have stopped him, they wish they could have prevented from going on but he was intent on leaving. Chris said to me in hindsight I know I couldn't stop him.

Do they think he committed suicide? You know we've had that conversation between the three of us, Chris, Roberta and myself several times, we just do not know of course knowing his mental state when he walked out the door it was always a concern. Let's wait until the medical examiner.

We'll have to accept -- how did the laundries know where to look. Brian had hiked in that park, myakkahatchee, Chris has hiked with him. They kind of knew his favourite spots. We had told law enforcement from the begin being where brian might be in the areas of the park. When Chris went on Monday night to look for brian when he didn't return he saw the car.

it was dark, everything was wet and flooded and he returned the next day, and Chris and Roberta looked again in the same areas, but again, it was flooded and they couldn't get off-trail. How and when brian wound up in that area, maybe he walked in the trail and circled back. As far as how did the laundries know when to look, start at the beginning and work their way into the trail. Brian's remains and personal items were located somewhat in close proximity to the entrance to the park.

Did the brain tell the laundries anything about what happened to gabby before s disappeared? That's something I can't comment on. I think everybody out there knows that whether the family or myself have some information to share, but there's not much we can say at this point in time. I'm going to leave it with no comment. Because they've been cooperating with the FBI. I'm sorry, we were cooperating with the FBI. Because the family is cooperating with the FBI.

I've been quite clear when it comes to fbi we have absolutely nothing to say with respect to the gabby petito, with respect to brian we've been cooperating from day one. Those are two different scenarios. One was a missing person with gabby and one was with a missing person with brian. I haven't spoken to Chris and Roberta yesterday was very hard on them. And I'm sure everybody can imagine. I'm sure at some point in the future, you know, comments and discussions may be had. Mr.
